Nancy Pelosi today made this statement:
It is urgent that Congress send a message to the markets that we will act.
Guess what she was talking about. Ha! We can wish she was talking about oil.
No, she was referring to the passage and removed veto threat of the housing boondoggle, I mean bill. A bill that should not have passed. A bill that gives money to people who bit off more than they could chew because they were "keeping up with the Jonses." A bill that gives more money to lenders who ignored paperwork requirements and lent money to people who could not afford the payments. Both of these groups dug their own holes and should have to sleep in them when kicked out of their houses.
Why, Nan, wouldn't this same logic work with oil? Send a message. Open up drilling on the OCS. I'm sure the market would respond. Then, you would actually be helping all Americans whose only mistake was electing untrustworthy politicians who printed money to spend (on things like housing boondoggles), lowered the value of the dollar, relaxed speculation requirements, refused to permit refineries, encouraged people to buy big houses in the suburbs and double commutes, which all helped cause oil prices to skyrocket.
Fix the problem you actually caused. Send the RIGHT message, Pelosi.
