Most of the time, the AP decries labels. They won't even call the Taliban "terrorists." But they have no problem making sure everyone knows a corrupt senator is a Republican.
Yesterday, the AP put out a story about the indictment of Senator Ted Stevens with the headline, "GOP Senator accused of making false statements." The story emphasizes the point by using "Republican" as the sixth word of the article.
But Democrats get different treatment.
The same AP put out another story yesterday titled, "Ex-Newark mayor gets 27 months for corruption."
Since it came out of Jersey, I figured he was a Democrat. At first glance, I didn't see the title in the story at all. I went out and Googled him to find out that yes, he was a Democrat. After re-reading the article, I saw it mentioned he was also a "Democratic state senator" in the sixth paragraph.
So here's the AP list:
Terrorist -- not OK
Democrat -- if negative story, OK only if you have to
Republican -- if negative story, print multiple times
